Volunteers play a big role in our enCourage family – helping with both fundraising efforts and our programs.

Many have been with us for years, like Mike Lee, who first volunteered at our Sports Auction in 1999. “The fundraisers are intense and fast-paced, yet you know you are trying to raise money for an amazing cause; it inspires you to work hard.”

Volunteers help with our fundraising events, such as our Gala in March, by securing raffle items in advance as well as helping at the events themselves – from set-up and check-in to handing out gifts and breaking down.

They also help fundraise in other ways. On November 1, 2015, eight volunteers ran the NYC Marathon on behalf of enCourage Kids, including Chip Holmes. Combined they raised nearly $50,000 – double the original goal!

Another way to volunteer is by assisting at our Escapes events for kids and their families. “The Escapes are great because you get to see where some of that money is going, and actually being able to attend some of the events is truly rewarding,” shares Mike.

Chip agrees. “My favorite thing is getting to know the kids and their families. I also love seeing the bonds that form between the kids as they get to know each other better.”

Some of the Escapes include trips to Six Flags Great Adventure, ice skating in the park, a weekend at Camp Pontiac, and our annual holiday party, which is a favorite of Amy Zeng. “The kids are so excited when they see Santa. And no matter how big or small the present is, you can see how much better the kids’ lives are because they’re a part of the enCourage Kids family.”

For volunteers like Angelae Wilkerson, it also means a lot to them to be a part of our family. “It’s hard to put into words how special enCourage Kids is to me. It fills my heart with pure and utter joy and happiness.”

There are other benefits to volunteering as well. “We can call so many people we met through enCourage Kids some of our dearest and closest friends,” shares Mike.
