enCouraging ‘Mor’ Family Fun at Bowlmor!

On Wednesday, August 3rd 160 enCourage kids and their families enjoyed an afternoon at Bowlmor Times Square in New York City through our Escapes program. This year’s 7th Annual Family Fun Day at Bowlmor outing was filled with four hours of unlimited bowling for the families along with crafts, arcade games, and a full buffet of food! Bowling is something that helps bring families and children together, and if you too want to take part, take a look at https://skilledbowlers.com for more information on all things bowling!

This event would not be possible without our supporters, Goldman Sachs Community TeamWorks and Stop & Shop, who generously provided funding for the event.

Our partnership with Goldman Sachs has flourished over the years, as company employees spend the day volunteering through their Community TeamWorks program. At least one day a year, Goldman Sachs employees work in partnership with local nonprofit organizations around the world, contributing their expertise and ideas to help make a meaningful difference.

As a new father, this years’ service hit a little close to home for Matthew Schaefer, Vice President of IMD Communications at Goldman Sachs. “Being a parent is tough but being a parent to a child with a disability or health issue – I can’t imagine how hard it is,” Matthew shared.

“To be a part of helping these kids have an escape from any issues they face, and helping their families escape as well, is the best part. We are humbled to be a part of it. We are humbled to spend our day with these kids.”

Goldman Sachs volunteers helped check-in families when they arrived and later spent time bowling, doing crafts, and playing arcade games with the kids.

Peter Swan, a member of the Institutional Sales Group at Goldman Sachs, explained that his favorite part of the day was being able to work so closely with our kids and families. “Seeing how excited the kids get when you’re helping them and spending time with them is so great. Just seeing the family dynamic, and being able to share that with them is really special.”

“No matter how busy you are, no matter what level you are in the company or how important you might think your job is – you always have to make time to help the community and other people. It’s a really important part of the Goldman experience,” Peter explained. “It really puts things into perspective and it reinforces that we have a very modest culture with the type of work everyone does.”

We are so thankful to Goldman Sachs Community TeamWorks and Stop & Shop for providing our families with this fun-filled day of bowling and to the 15 Goldman Sachs volunteers who helped spread smiles to our kids and families.

“It is a blessing to have something like this for the kids who have a sickness,” shared enCourage mom, Patricia. “So thank you to the sponsors for all you have done for my family through the years with enCourage Kids. I appreciate everything you have done for us. We can’t thank you enough.”
