When you join enCourage Kids Foundation, you join a group of families, staff, volunteers, and supporters who truly understand the ups and downs of having a seriously ill child. Our kids and families form relationships and bonds with other families in our program that last a lifetime. Although children age-out of our Escapes program when they turn 19, they know they have a family for life with enCourage Kids.
How a Few Seconds Can Turn a Fear into a Strong Foundation of Courage
If you’ve been following along on our social media, you know that the next big thing at enCourage Kids Foundation is our world record setting event, Breaking Barriers. On May 11, 2017, martial arts master and current world record holder Leif Becker will make history as he attempts to set a new world record for the most boards broken in a 24 hour period. Hosted at Ripley’s Believe it or Not! in the heart of Times Square, Leif will attempt to break 12,000 boards – all to benefit enCourage Kids.
Times Square had a little extra hustle and bustle on the evening of March 16, as over 850 guests and dedicated donors filled the Broadway Ballroom at the Mariott Marquis to celebrate our 32nd Annual Gala. The evening raised over $1.8 million for our programs; a truly remarkable and record breaking number.
Co-hosts Andy Adler – PIX11 Sports Anchor – and Allyson Spellman – TV Personality, author, and coach – lit up the room and encouraged guests to dig deep into their hearts and pockets as we highlighted the courage and resilience of our kids and families through our “Tales of Courage” campaign and Escapes program.
The Importance of Being Loved, Giving Love, and Feeling Love This Valentine’s Day
Most people think of Valentine’s Day as a day that is celebrated only if you are in a relationship. While this may be true for many couples, Valentine’s Day is so much more than fancy dinners and expensive gifts. It’s about the act of loving, and being loved in return. Everybody loves to be loved. The feeling of knowing that there is someone out there who cares about you can make all of the difference, especially when going through a difficult time. There is no better feeling than knowing you are not alone and that somebody cares.
Santa and his enCourage elves were extra busy this holiday season as we prepared and hosted several of our annual and beloved holiday parties in December. These celebrations helped to usher in the New Year with some serious smiles and cheerful spirits for the children in our program.
